Vedic Hymns of Praise, Prayer, and Worship to God


1.
Viśvāni deva savitar duritāni parāsuva |
Yad bhadraṃ tan na ā suva ||

Meaning:
O Divine Savitṛ (Supreme God), the bestower of all happiness, the illuminator of knowledge, the creator of the entire universe, and the possessor of all divine powers—please remove all our vices, bad habits, and sufferings, and grant us in full measure all that is auspicious: noble qualities, righteous actions, virtuous nature, happiness, and beneficial resources.

Hiraṇyagarbhaḥ samavartatāgre bhūtasya jātaḥ patireka āsīt |
Sa dādhāra pṛthivīṃ dyām utemāṃ kasmai devāya haviṣā vidhema ||

Meaning:
Before the creation of the universe and at the very beginning of creation, the self-luminous Supreme Being existed fully. He produced and sustains within Himself the radiant sun, moon, stars, planets, and all celestial bodies. He alone is the renowned Lord and Master of the entire created universe. It is that blissful, pure, radiant, and all-powerful Sustainer of creation whom we worship with disciplined yogic practice and worthy offerings in order to attain Him.

Ya ātmadā baladā yasya viśva upāsate praśiṣaṃ yasya devāḥ |
Yasya chāyā’mṛtaṃ yasya mṛtyuḥ kasmai devāya haviṣā vidhema ||

Meaning:
That Supreme Being who grants self-knowledge and bestows physical, spiritual, and social strength; whom all learned persons worship; whose governance, order, and discipline are accepted by all; whose refuge leads to liberation and eternal bliss, and whose denial results in suffering and death—unto that blissful, pure, radiant, divinely powerful, and protector of all beings, we offer devoted worship through yogic discipline and sacred offerings to attain Him.

Yaḥ prāṇato nimiṣato mahitvaika indrājā jagato babhūva |
Ya īśe asya dvipadaś catuṣpadaḥ kasmai devāya haviṣā vidhema ||

Meaning:
The Supreme God who, by His infinite glory, alone reigns supreme over the living, conscious beings and the non-living, inert universe; who creates and governs all two-footed beings such as humans and four-footed beings such as animals; and who is their absolute Lord—unto that blissful, pure, radiant, and divinely powerful Protector of all, we offer special devotion through yogic practice and sacred offerings to attain Him.

Yena dyaur ugrā pṛthivī ca dṛḍhā yena svaḥ stabhitaṃ yenanākaḥ |
Yo antarikṣe rajaso vimānaḥ kasmai devāya haviṣā vidhema ||

Meaning:
That Supreme Being who sustains the radiant heavenly world with the sun and other luminous bodies, who upholds the earth, who supports all happiness, who sustains liberation (mokṣa), and who, by precise laws, creates, sustains, governs, and pervades all worlds and interspaces—unto that pure, radiant, and divinely powerful God we offer special worship through disciplined yoga and worthy offerings to attain Him.

Prajāpate na tvadetāny anyo viśvā jātāni paritā babhūva |
Yat kāmās te juhumastan no astu vayaṃ syāma patayor ayīṇām ||

Meaning:
O Supreme Lord, the Protector of all beings! None other than You can control and govern all created animate and inanimate entities, whether near or far. You alone are capable of ruling the entire universe. Whatever objects or attainments we desire and for which we worship You through yogic practice, devotion, and sacred offerings—may those desires be fulfilled, so that we, as Your devotees, may become endowed with prosperity and divine wealth.

Sa no bandhur janitā sa vidhātā dhāmāni veda bhuvanāni viśvā |
Yatra devā amṛtam ānaśānāḥ tṛtīye dhāmann adhyairayanta ||

Meaning:
That Supreme God is our true friend and benefactor, the creator of the entire universe, and the fulfiller of all actions. He knows all worlds and all abodes. Taking refuge in Him, yogis attain liberation and experience the bliss of mokṣa, freely abiding in the third abode—the supreme state of Brahman. It is that very Supreme God whom we worship with devotion.


8.
Agné naya supathā rāye asmān viśvāni deva vayunāni vidvān |
Yuyodhy asmaj juhurāṇam eno bhūyiṣṭhāṃ te nama uktiṃ vidhema ||

Meaning:
O Supreme Lord, the embodiment of divine knowledge and light, the guide to the righteous path, and possessor of infinite power—lead us on the virtuous and auspicious path so that we may attain knowledge, wisdom, prosperity, and excellence. You are the knower of all knowledge and all actions. Remove from us all sinful deeds born of deceit and crookedness. For this purpose, we humbly offer You ever-increasing praise, prayer, worship, reverence, and heartfelt salutations.
