  🌷 Precious Sayings 🌷 Depend not on fate, but on character. Noble actions are the highest form of worship of God. One may escape courts and police, but never God. Virtuous conduct is superior to any ornament or attire. The ability to correct one’s mistakes is the greatest mark of wisdom. Impatience for results is the greatest obstacle to progress. Courtesy costs nothing, yet it can purchase everything. God entrusts everyone with noble responsibilities, but He is pleased only with those who fulfil them. Do not wait for favourable opportunities; every moment is auspicious for sincere effort. The adverse effects of the present age influence only those who neglect vigilance. God in Vedas God is Sat-Chit-Ananda (Existence-Consciousness-Bliss). God is formless. God is omnipotent. God is omniscient. God is just. God is compassionate. God is unborn. God is infinite. God is immutable. God is the Supreme Lord of all. God is undecaying. God is immortal. God is all-pervading. God is incomparable. God is the sustainer of all. God is beginningless. God is the creator of the universe. God is pure. God is eternal. God is the giver of fearlessness. God is the indwelling controller of all. The entire world is governed by one and only one God. Question: Is there any mantra in the Vedas which states that God is one?  Happy Shivratri ## Shiva in the Vedas Every day in our Sandhyā worship, we recite the following mantra: **“Namah Shambhavaya cha Mayobhavaya cha Namah Shankaraya cha Mayaskaraya cha Namah Shivaya cha Shivataraya cha.”** — Yajurveda 16.41 ### Meaning We bow to the Supreme Being who is the giver of happiness (*Shambhu*), the source of bliss (*Mayobhava*), the benefactor (*Shankara*), the bestower of supreme joy (*Mayaskara*), the auspicious one (*Shiva*), and the most auspicious (*Shivatar*). The names Shambhu, Mayobhava, Shankara, Mayaskara, Shiva, and Shivatar are all descriptive names of the one formless Supreme God, based on His attributes. --- ## Shiva in the Vedas: According to Attributes and Actions The Vedas describe God on the basis of His qualities, actions, and nature. ### 1.   # **Family Vows and Conduct** **Author:** Pandit Gangaprasad Upadhyaya **“Anuvrataḥ pituḥ putro mātrā bhavatu saṃmanāḥ। Jāyā patye madhumatīṃ vācaṃ vadatu śāntivām॥”** — Atharvaveda 3.30.2 ### Word-by-word Meaning (Anvaya) * *Putraḥ pituḥ anuvrataḥ bhavatu* — Let the son follow the father’s vows. * *Putraḥ mātrā saha saṃmanāḥ bhavatu* — Let the son be of harmonious mind with the mother. * *Jāyā patye madhumatīṃ śāntivāṃ vācaṃ vadatu* — Let the wife speak sweet and peace-giving words to her husband. ### Meaning The son should be *anuvrata*—one who continues and fulfills the vows of the father. He should act in a way that satisfies his mother’s heart.
