Vedic Education and Noble Sentiments**
## **Welfare of the World**
**“Yo ’smān dveṣṭi yaṁ vayaṁ dviṣmas tasya tvaṁ prāṇena pyāyasva ।
Ā vayaṁ pyāsiṣīmahi gobhir aśvaiḥ prajayā paśubhir gṛhair dhanena ॥”**
(Atharvaveda 7.81.5)
**Translation:**
O Supreme Being! Even the person who bears enmity towards us—and towards whom we also feel enmity—may You grant him a long life. May he prosper, and may we also flourish. May we all be blessed with cows, bulls, horses, sons, grandsons, animals, wealth, food, and abundant prosperity. May the welfare of all be ensured, and may our welfare also be secured.
---
## **Universal Love**
The Vedas do not teach hatred. The Vedas declare:
**“Uta devā avahitaṁ devā unnayathā punaḥ ।
Utāghaś cakruṣaṁ devā devā jīvayathā punaḥ ॥”**
(Atharvaveda 4.13.1)
**Translation:**
O divine-natured, virtuous scholars! Uplift those who have fallen. O learned ones! Raise up again and again those who are downtrodden. O noble-hearted people! Even those who commit faults and sins—lift them up. Awaken their inner light repeatedly and inspire them towards righteousness.
---
**“Yasmin sarvāṇi bhūtāny ātmaivābhūd vijānataḥ ।
Tatra ko mohaḥ kaḥ śoka ekatvam anupaśyataḥ ॥”**
(Yajurveda 40.7)
**Translation:**
In the state of Self-realization, when all beings appear as one’s own Self, what delusion or sorrow can remain for such a sage? One who sees unity in all beings—who loves every creature as oneself—becomes free from all grief and attachment.
---
**“Adyā murīya yadi yātudhāno ’smi yadi vāyus tatap pūruṣasya ॥”**
(Atharvaveda 8.4.15)
**Translation:**
If I ever become one who harms the people or causes suffering to any human being, then may I die today—this very moment.
---
**“Yathā bhūmir mṛtam anā mṛtān mṛtam anas tarā ।
Yathota mamṛṣo mana eve rṣyor mṛtaṁ manaḥ ॥”**
(Atharvaveda 6.18.2)
**Translation:**
Just as the earth is inert, and a dead body is without life, so is the mind of a person dead who is filled with jealousy and hatred. Therefore, one must not hate anyone.
---
## **Union of Spiritual and Moral Power**
**“Yatra brahma ca kṣatraṁ ca samyañcau carataḥ saha ।
Taṁ lokaṁ puṇyaṁ prajñeṣaṁ yatra devāḥ sahāgninā ॥”**
(Yajurveda 20.25)
**Translation:**
Wherever—whether in a nation, land, or community—spiritual wisdom (Brahma power) and moral/heroic strength (Kṣatra power) walk together in harmony, and where citizens are inspired by noble ideals of national upliftment—such a land is sacred, prosperous, and excellent.
---
## **Character Building**
**“Pra pado ’va nenīgdhi duścaritaṁ yaccacāra śuddhaiḥ śapairā kramatāṁ prajānān ।
Tīrtvā tamāṁsi bahudhā vipaśyann ajo nākamā kramatāṁ tṛtīyam ॥”**
(Atharvaveda 9.5.3)
**Translation:**
O human being! Discard all evil deeds you have committed. Then, with pure and righteous conduct, move forward with wisdom. Crossing many kinds of sins and darkness, rise higher through meditation and yogic absorption, behold the unborn Brahman, and finally ascend to the blissful state of liberation, beyond all attachment and sorrow.
---
## **Love of God**
**“Mahe cana tvām adrivaḥ parā śulkāya deyām ।
Na sahasrāya nāyutāya vajrivo na śatāya śatāmagha ॥”**
(Rigveda 8.1.5)
**Translation:**
O Indestructible Supreme Being! For no amount of material gain or profit shall I ever abandon You. O Powerful One! O Lord of all wealth! I shall not forsake You even for a thousand, nor for ten thousand, nor for limitless riches.
---
## **Walking the Noble Path**
**“Mā pra gāma patho vayaṁ mā yajñād indra sōminaḥ ।
Mānya sthur no arātayaḥ ॥”**
(Atharvaveda 13.1.59)
**Translation:**
O Indra! O Supreme Lord! May we never deviate from the righteous path. May we never fall away from peaceful, noble deeds. May enemies such as desire, anger, and hatred never overpower us.
---
## **Sweet Speech**
**“Vācaṁ juṣṭāṁ madhumatīm avādiṣam ॥”**
(Atharvaveda 5.7.4)
**Translation:**
May we speak words that are pleasant and sweet.
---
**“Hotar asi bhadravācyāya preṣito mānuṣaḥ sūktavākāya sūktā brūhi ॥”**
(Yajurveda 21.61)
**Translation:**
O learned teacher! You are sent for the purpose of delivering noble speech. Become a thoughtful person and impart excellent, auspicious counsel to good people.
---
## **Divine Sentiment**
**“Yo naḥ kaścid rirīkṣati rakṣas tvaina martyaḥ ।
Savai ’va rirīṣīṣṭa yūr janaḥ ॥”**
(Rigveda 8.18.13)
**Translation:**
One who, driven by a violent and wicked nature, seeks to harm us—such a sorrowful person ultimately perishes through his own crooked behavior and evil conduct. Why, then, should I harm anyone?
