Message of Universal Brotherhood and Human Welfare in the Vedas
**Message of Universal Brotherhood and Human Welfare in the Vedas**
The message of universal brotherhood and human welfare found in the Vedas is not present in any other system of worship (so-called religions). Let us protect humanity and this creation through conduct in accordance with the Vedas.
**“Janam bibhṛtī… dhenur anapasphurantī”** (Atharvaveda 12.1.45)
Just as a home accommodates all family members, this Earth sustains within herself people who speak different languages and follow different modes of worship. Even though there may be differences of language, religion, dress, etc., we should live together with mutual love.
**“Saṁ gacchadhvaṁ… su-sahāsati”** (Ṛgveda 10.191.2)
O human beings! Walk together, speak together, let your minds be united. Accomplish your tasks together just as the various *devas* cooperate with one another. Here *devas* mean the forces of nature—such as the Sun, Moon, air, Earth, stars, etc.—and, within the body, the mind, eyes, ears, speech, hands, feet, and so on.
Let your resolve be the same, your hearts be united, and your minds be harmonious, so that a noble tendency of living together in unity may arise among you.
**“Dṛte dṛḍhaṁ… samīkṣāmahe”** (Yajurveda 36.18)
O Lord, I take a vow of friendship; grant me the strength to remain firm in it. May all beings look upon me with friendliness, and may I also look upon all beings as friends. Let all humans regard one another as friends.
**“Asmākaṁ… dadhātana”** (Ṛgveda 10.37.11)
May we work for the welfare of both two-footed (men) and four-footed ( animals) beings. May the Lord grant us such happiness and health that every being may live well, eat, drink, and remain strong and active.
**“Sarvam ij jagad ayakṣmaṁ sumanā asat”** (Yajurveda 16.4)
May the entire world be free from disease and possess a healthy and joyful mind.
**“Viśvaṁ puṣṭaṁ grāme asmin anāturam”** (Yajurveda 16.48)
May everyone in this society be strong, well-nourished, and free from illness.
**Om Śam.**
